We are very happy to announce the results of the call for a residency in Arnhem! This is Ewa Głowacka, who was chosen by Claudia Schouten – curator of Motel Spatie, and will spend in the Netherlands four weeks between October and November 2017.
Ewa Głowacka will use the residency period to research an issue of failure in different artistic, cultural and social contexts, and then to present it in a form of zine. Also because of the fact that zines are a form of publishing that is never about perfection, when compared to professionally designed and printed art books, for instance. Screenprinting, which is also a great part of Głowacka’s experience, because of the technique itself, also sets different examples of failures. At the same time this theoretical as well as practical research about failures in the art will be based on zines collected in the zinedepo (zine library) at Motel Spatie, done in the screen print workshop, which is located there as well, and presented at the end of the residency. Głowacka in her research and work will be also supported by Hubert Kostkiewicz – social and cultural activist, journalist and musician from Wrocław.
Ewa Głowacka is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, University of Wrocław and Universidad del Pais Vasco in Bilbao, and in her everyday practice she is active in graphic design. In 2016 within the framework of a cooperation between AIR Wro and OPEN A.i.R. she already went for a residency to Pilsen – European Capital of Culture 2015.
Motel Spatie is an artist-in-residence and project space based in Presikhaaf shopping mall as part of and in collaboration with the Locatie Spatie collective: a local and international network of friends. The aim of Motel Spatie is to shape the concept of “Engaged Autonomy” by inviting artists, linking these to a particular physical and / or social context, and supporting them in the development of new work.
